Event Description

The International programme on Health Promotion, Quality of Life and Wellbeing was held at the Qawra Hotel in Malta between 4th – 15th May 2015.  Seventeen participants attended the programme. These hailed from Bangladesh, Belarus, China, Georgia, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Macedonia, Malta, Moldova, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia and Ukraine. All participants presented country reports about the situation of older persons in their respective countries. These country reports dealt with what policies were being formulated and what services were being carried out by their Governments and Civil Societies to meet the recommendations made by the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing on the Health promotion, quality of life and wellbeing of older persons. Lecturing on the programmes were local tutors from the University of Malta and two International tutors Professor Harrison Bloom, founder and past director of the International Education and Consultation Service for the International Longevity Centre, New York, USA and Professor Marion McMurdo, Head of Ageing and Health at the University of Dundee, Scotland.

The programme was closed by UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs Hu Wongo together with Hon. Dr. Justyne Caruana, Malta’s Parliamentary Secretary for Rights of Persons with disability and Active Ageing. Mr. Wu was in Malta to chair the seventh meeting of the International Board of INIA.  INIA’s International Board members were also in attendance. After the dissemination of certificates, a reception took place at the Sea Bank Hotel in Mellieha, Malta.
