CONSULTANCY
In order to enhance and increase
the technical knowledge and consciousness of decision-makers and
planners to design policies for ageing populations, and to meet new
challenges and directions, the Institute offers consultancy services
in the field of Ageing. This service is in response to the requests of governments
and non-governmental bodies for ad-hoc advisory activities,
feasibility studies, project design and planning and the creation and
implementation of training programmes. To date, various missions
have been assigned to INIA's appointed experts, fulfilling
another objective of the Institute in acting in an
advisory capacity.
Two main agencies have
engaged INIA through its research project in China, namely the World
Health Organisation (WHO) and the United Nations Population Fund
(UNFPA). During 1993 the Regional Director for WHO in the
Eastern Meditrerranean Region (EMRO), recruited INIA's experts on
three separate missions namely in Kuwait, Egypt and Pakistan.
In each of these missions INIA was invited to make rapid assessments
of various aspects of health and social problems related to older
persons; estimate the magnitude of these problems, advise on various
aspects of community care, assist governmental organisations in
formulating multi-sectorial national plans for health care of older
persons and assist in the organisation of a workshop on community care for older persons. In
addition to this, INIA's technical staff has
been recruited in a number of research studies and training
operations. In these activities, the Institute co-operates closely
with the United Nations Department for Policy Co-ordination
and Sustainable Development, the World Bank and the International
Labour Organisation.
INIA's resources are available and responsive to future calls
and needs.
